Just when we thought lower gas prices were a good thing, it appears President Obama doesn't believe they are high enough. This budget, like his previous budgets, has no chance of passing and demonstrates how little regard the President has for putting forward a serious budget proposal.
Yesterday, the House passed my bipartisan small business legislation in a package of House Committee on Financial Services capital formation and regulatory relief bills. In order for sustained economic growth to occur, we need to make sure small businesses have access to capital and ensure family-owned businesses in West Michigan aren't buried in bureaucratic red tape coming from Washington!
Earlier today, I took a moment to thank outgoing Canadian Ambassador Gary Doer for his service, friendship, and commitment to strengthening U.S. Canadian relations. Michigan sells more goods to Canada than we do to our next 12 largest trading partners combined so we know better than most the importance of our nation's relationship with Canada. I wish Ambassador Doer all the best in his future endeavors.
Tonight, I strongly supported the vote to override President Obama's veto of legislation that would defund Planned Parenthood and repeal ObamaCare. Unfortunately, we did not get the 2/3's majority required to override the veto. While this is disappointing, hope remains. We have found a constitutional path to achieve both these goals and a republican in the White House in 2017 means Planned Parenthood is defunded and ObamaCare is repealed! #DefundPP
