This weekend, Jacob Wildfong, a junior at West Ottawa High School, was announced as the winner of the 2^nd District’s 2011 Congressional Art Competition for his abstract digital photograph, “Flicker.”

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02, attended the reception this Saturday morning at the Holland Area Arts Council, where he met with competition finalists and helped announce the winner, as decided by a four-judge panel of art and design professionals. Dr. David McGee, Professor of Art at GVSU, represented the judges and joined with Huizenga in announcing this year’s winner. The panel also included Katherine Sullivan, Professor of Art, Hope College; Nate Young, President, NewNorth Center, Former Provost of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA; and Andrew Bartlett, Lead Designer, Tiara Yachts.

Wildfong described his entry as "the outcome of a photography experiment, trying to capture light and motion in an abstract form." His photo will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year along with the winners from each Congressional District across the country, and he has the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. for a reception honoring all the winners.
