This is completely unacceptable. I have cosponsored the Prohibiting IRS Financial Surveillance Act as well as the Protecting Financial Privacy Act to stop this massive invasion of privacy.
Recently, I joined WJR in Detroit and WOOD Radio in Grand Rapids to discuss this outrageous government overreach. You can listen to each interview above.
While my team and I are still examining the latest text of the legislation, which totals 1,684 pages, it appears this obscene IRS proposal has been removed from the bill. While this is good news, we must remain vigilant so it doesn't find its way back into the bill.
With that said, the latest iteration of this boondoggle authorizes the IRS to hire thousands of additional agents to audit and hassle law-abiding citizens. This grows the size of government and despite inaccurate claims from Democrats will very likely not recoup its cost.
The Road Ahead
When Democrats finally stop negotiating with themselves, I will be voting "no" on this out of control spending monstrosity.
