Honoring our Veterans and Fallen Heroes

On Saturday, I was honored to participate in the Wreath Laying Ceremony at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. 

It was great to speak with Michiganders from communities across the 4th District and as far away as Ludington in the 2nd District. Most importantly, it was wonderful to see everyone join together to honor our veterans and remember those soldiers who were killed serving our nation or have since passed.

My National Security Legislation Heads to President Biden's Desk

On December 14th, the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by a bipartisan vote of 310-118. The NDAA takes a positive step forward by delivering the biggest pay raise for our troops in history as well as providing a well-deserved pay raise for the men and women working tirelessly to secure our border. 

Importantly, this legislation also directly impacts Southwest Michigan by including $24.5 million to strengthen our military infrastructure in Battle Creek. 

Lastly, this bipartisan bill also includes my legislation, the AUKUS Submarine Transfer Authorization Act, to counter communist China’s growing influence by enhancing our alliance with our British and Australian Allies. By authorizing the sale of up to three Virginia Class nuclear powered submarines to Australia, we directly improve our deterrence capabilities as well as our readiness in the Indo-Pacific Region.

While this bipartisan bill does not include every provision or reform that I believe is necessary, the portion of the NDAA containing the legislation that I introduced directly strengthens our national security and I look forward to President Biden signing this measure into law.

Lowering Prescription Drug Prices

Last week, I voted for the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act. This bipartisan legislation is specifically designed to help seniors, families, and individuals save on the cost of prescription drugs while increasing price transparency.

Additionally, this bill takes the important step of expanding access to affordable generic drugs and investing in Community Health Centers which play a vital role in our rural and underserved communities.

I am happy to report this bipartisan legislation passed the House by a vote of 320-71 and now heads to the Senate. I hope the Senate acts on this important legislation to lower health care costs in short order. To learn more about H.R. 5378, click here.

Formalizing the Impeachment Inquiry

President Biden and this Administration have continued to stonewall requests for information from Congress. President Biden, the Administration, and Hunter Biden continue to move the goalposts and change their story regarding the President’s knowledge of and involvement in questionable business dealings.

As more concerning financial information is revealed, the House has a constitutional responsibility to continue to investigate and follow where the evidence leads.

Formally opening an impeachment inquiry provides the House of Representatives with the strongest legal ground to challenge the Biden Administration’s obstruction in court.
