Welcome to the Huddle

It is an honor to serve as your representative for the newly created 4th Congressional District. The Huizenga Huddle is one of the main tools I use to help inform constituents. I will provide updates on my work in Washington, the stops I am making across Southwest Michigan, and information that impacts our community. I hope you find the Huddle informative!

President Biden's State of the Union

Last week, President Biden delivered his State of the Union Address. While we heard the President call for a unity agenda, actions speak louder than words. Falsely accusing Republicans of wanting to eliminate Social Security and Medicare wasn’t a good start.

Despite a rather raucous back and forth in the House Chamber, I was glad to see the President acknowledge that both sides of the aisle want to protect Social Security and Medicare for today’s seniors while preserving these programs for future generations.

After President Biden's address, I spoke to News Channel 3's Andy Dominianni to discuss the President's "rosy" portrayal of the economy which doesn't accurately represent reality for many across Southwest Michigan. We also discussed my moment with the parents of Tyre Nichols and my thoughts on police reform. You can watch our full conversation below.

Later that evening, I joined ABC 57 to discuss inflation, the need to get our nation's spending under control, and areas where Democrats and Republicans can work together. I believe improving care for veterans, strengthening mental health resources, and protecting the Great Lakes are areas for bipartisan cooperation.`

The Chinese Spy Balloon & The Object Over Lake Huron

On Sunday, we learned that some sort of object had been shot down over Lake Huron. It is unprecedented that we have had this military action occur in U.S. airspace let alone have it happen four times in just over a week.

On Tuesday morning, I appeared on Fox & Friends First to discuss how it is time the American people hear from President Biden on this matter. There is bipartisan agreement that we need to have more information and greater transparency from the Biden Administration as well as the Pentagon. You can watch my discussion on Fox News below.

The Tragedy at Michigan State

Our hearts go out to the Spartan Community during this tremendous loss. While we don't have a full assessment of the perpetrator's mental health or motives, pieces are beginning to come together to show there were significant issues.

As we learn more about the perpetrator's criminal past and the events that led to this senseless tragedy, I want to thank the first responders and police officers for their quick response and for working around the clock to provide updates on this tragic situation.

Committee Assignments

Over the last two years under the Biden Administration, financial regulators have created a complicated, overburdensome, and often arbitrary regulatory structure that has stifled economic growth and hindered small business job creation, all while failing to protect Americans from bad actors.

I am excited to share with you that I have been selected to serve as the Chairman of the House Financial Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee for the 118th Congress.

On Friday, I began my oversight role in earnest by officially requesting documents from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried and the Department of Justice. I have included the letter sent to SEC Chairman Gary Gensler below for you to review.

I am excited to take on a new committee assignment. For the 118th Congress, I will also be serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

America and our allies face challenges on multiple fronts. Having been assigned to the subcommittees relating to Europe and the Western Hemisphere, I believe we can find common ground to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties with our partners in these regions.

I look forward to being part of the solution that prioritizes American interests, supports our allies, and counters the expansionist desires of both Russia and China.

The STOVE Act

Earlier this year, we saw bureaucrats in Washington trot out the misguided idea of banning gas stoves. Since that time, we have learned that despite denials from the Administration, there has been a fair amount of discussion within the Executive Branch to do just that. In January, I introduced there Stop Trying to Obsessively Vilify Energy Act or STOVE Act.

The last thing Americans need or want is another big government bureaucratic decision. We should have the ability to choose the most affordable and most available way to cook food in our own home. The STOVE Act is a common-sense measure that will stop bureaucrats from banning gas stoves or ranges.
