Improving Constituent Services
This week, I launched my new Huizenga.House.Gov website. On the homepage you can now request assistance for dealing with a federal agency, share your thoughts with me, and see how I voted on a particular issue. You can also stay up date with my latest posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter all in one place.
The goal of this is to create greater transparency, make it easier for you to contact me, and provide a one stop shop for how I am working on behalf of West Michigan. Take a look at the new site and let me know what you think!
President Trump and Protecting the Great Lakes
Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to meet with President Trump alongside Congressman Bergman and Congressman Moolenaar. We explained to the President how important the Great Lakes are to Michigan and how the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) has played a vital role in preserving and protecting them. I am happy to report that our conversation with the President was successful, and President Trump has announced his support for fully funding the GLRI.
As Co-Chair of the Great Lakes Task Force, I have helped lead the bipartisan effort to fully fund the GLRI. This program helps prevent the spread of invasive species, clean up legacy pollution, and improve the environmental and economic health of the Great Lakes Region.
Specifically here in West Michigan, the GLRI has led to the delisting of White Lake as a toxic hotspot, the clean up of Muskegon Lake, and the restoration of the areas surrounding Lake Macatawa. For a closer look at the GLRI's impact in Michigan, click here.
The Great Lakes are vital to our economy and to our way of life here in West Michigan. Having the President throw his support behind this long-standing bipartisan effort will help create new opportunities and protect the Great Lakes for future generations.
Yesterday, Congressmen Bergman, Moolenaar, and I sent the President a letter thanking him for his support. You can read the letter here.
Standing Up For Babies Who Survive An Abortion
On Wednesday, I joined my colleagues in signing the discharge petition for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation would protect innocent babies who survive an attempted abortion. If the petition reaches 218 signatures, the legislation will receive a vote on the House floor.
As of last night, 3 Democrats have crossed over to support protecting these innocent children who have taken their first breaths. So far 194 members of the U.S. House have signed the petition.
This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It is my hope that Speaker Pelosi will allow a vote on this life or death issue, otherwise those of us who are committed to creating a culture that values life will continue to attempt to force a vote.
