Strengthening The Economy
On Monday, I joined Stuart Varney to discuss how the Financial CHOICE Act and pro-growth tax reform will strengthen our economy on Fox Business. To achieve these policy objectives, we should adopt Ronald Reagan's approach; if someone agrees with me 80% of the time, they’re my friend, not my enemy. Click the photo below to watch the interview
Restoring Accountability and Opportunity
We need to have a regulatory structure as well as a tax code that encourages innovation, small business job creation, and allows hardworking Americans greater opportunity to achieve financial independence. To restore economic opportunity for families in West Michigan and across the nation, my colleagues on the Financial Services Committee and I are preparing to introduce the Financial CHOICE Act. To learn more about how this commonsense legislation will protect consumers, end taxpayer bailouts, and provide regulatory relief for community financial institutions, read my recently published op-ed that appeared in the Detroit News and the Holland Sentinel.
A Bipartisan Boost For Job Creation
Our economy has changed significantly over the last 70+ years. How small businesses access capital has also changed. On April 6th, I spoke in support of reforming an outdated regulation so small businesses and startups can access capital more efficiently and create more jobs. I am happy to report this commonsense, bipartisan reform passed 417-3. To learn more about H.R. 1219 click on the photo below.
Honoring West Michigan Veterans
On April 13th, I had the honor of presenting Specialist "Marty" Witt of Muskegon with the medals he earned, including the Purple Heart, in service to our nation during the Vietnam War. Additionally I had the privilege of presenting the family of Sergeant Harold Q. Woodard with the medals he earned, including the Bronze Star, while serving during World War II and in Korea.
Earlier this year, I had the distinct pleasure of presenting Specialist Lester Allen Bailey of Luther with the service medals he earned as a flight engineer on a Chinook helicopter during the Vietnam War. Lester's courage and dedication while under heavy enemy fire is nothing short of exemplary. You can read more about Lester's story in the Ludington Daily News.
It's incredibly important to share the stories of veterans from West Michigan so today's youth and future generations understand the sacrifices these men and women have made so we can be free. If you are a veteran who has misplaced or never received your medals, or you are having difficulties with the VA, please call my office in Grandville at (616) 570-0917 and ask to speak with Krista, my veterans specialist.
Working For West Michigan
Over the past two weeks, I have been traveling across the Second District to discuss the issues facing our nation and how they impact West Michigan. Here are a few examples of how I am working to strengthen our community and get Washington working for West Michigan.
