U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga
Week in Review: September 30, 2011

Time to Make the Tough Spending Decisions:

  • Next week, Congress will pass another Continuing Resolution (C.R.) to fund the government for another month at current levels. Each time Congress passes a C.R., it avoids the long-term planning necessary to get us out of the massive amount of debt we are in, and it piles on uncertainty for job creators, small business owners, and every taxpayer.
  • I believe it is far past time the federal government start using the common sense principles of budgeting American families use every day, and make the necessary tough decisions to ensure economic security for generations to come.
  • I opposed the most recent C.R. because it does not do enough to change the trajectory of spending.
  • House Republicans and I support the included disaster relief funding. We requested that we pay for the aid money we were spending, just like American families do. When your car breaks down, you move your family budget around to pay for it. Our government should do the same. Spending money on disasters does not mean we should make a disaster of the federal budget; it means we must prioritize.
