What's Happening In Washington:
Legislative Results - Increased Transparency, Increased Certainty:
Last week, the House passed H.R. 742, my bipartisan legislation to increase market and regulatory transparency and help agricultural producers as well as manufacturers mitigate potential risk. This bill passed by a vote of 420-2. Watch my floor speech on the legislation here and a video explanation of the bill here.
In Committee - Less Time On Paperwork, More Time On Job Creation:
This week, the Financial Services Committee passed H.R. 1135, my legislation providing a targeted and pragmatic fix to one of the most burdensome and unnecessary reporting requirements within Dodd-Frank. Repealing this measure allows job creators of all sizes to focus their resources on creating new jobs and new products. The bill passed committee by a bipartisan vote of 36-21. Bipartisan Solutions To Boost Job Creation & Economic Growth:
Dredging Great Lakes Harbors: Introduced H.R. 2273, a bipartisan measure to improve the dredging of harbors across the Great Lakes, eliminate the dredging backlog, and boost economic activity for both recreational and commercial harbors.
Removing Job-Destroying Regulations For Small Business: Introduced H.R. 2274, bipartisan legislation that reduces the regulatory costs incurred by the buyers and sellers of smaller main-street mom and pop type privately held companies that need to use professional business brokerage services.
Protecting Life:
Voted to protect the sanctity of life by cosponsoring and supporting H.R. 1797, The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
Protecting Families:
This week, 34 of my colleagues joined me in sending a letter to the IRS questioning the IRS' investigation and scrutiny of adoptive families.
Pushing For Commonsense Reforms:
Voted to make substantial and necessary reforms to our agricultural programs. While this farm bill didn't resolve all of my concerns, I viewed it as a definite step in the right direction.
Promoting Financial Literacy:
Discussed the importance of financial literacy with students from Muskegon Reeths-Puffer High School in the Capitol.
Getting The Next Generation Involved:
Met with students from Riley Street Middle School and Unity Christian High School on the steps of the Capitol.
