Weekly Column - Wanted: The Next Generation of Leaders

I am humbled by the number of young men and women that sign up to serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. It is wonderful to see the best and brightest strive to reach their greatest potential. One of the ways my office helps students achieve this objective is by holding what are known as Service Academy nights. These events provide students who are interested in attending one of our nation’s prestigious Military Academies with the opportunity to learn more about the application process.

On Thursday, September 7th, I will be hosting an Academy Night from 6PM – 8 PM at the Zhang Senior Center, which is located at 203 East Centre Ave. in Portage. Liaisons from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy will be on hand to provide information and answer questions that students or parents may have regarding the service academy process. Additionally, my staff will be on hand to help explain how the nomination process will work for the 4th Congressional District.

Communities throughout across Southwest Michigan and along the Lakeshore have developed a reputation among our nation’s Service Academies for having highly skilled and talented future leaders who are interested in serving our nation. If you or someone you know is interested in attending a Service Academy, I hope you will share this information regarding the upcoming Academy Night. For those unable to attend, but would like more information, please contact my Holland Office or visit Huizenga.House.Gov.

If you need assistance with navigating a federal agency, obtaining a passport, or are planning to visit our nation’s capital, please contact my office in Holland at (616) 251-6741, my office in Portage at (269) 569-8595, or my office in Washington at (202) 225-4401. My team and I are here to serve you.
