Huizenga Statement on November Jobs Report

Washington, D.C., December 2, 2011 | Lauren Phillips ((202) 225-4401)

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga released the following statement on today’s Department of Labor report for November that the nation’s unemployment rate dipped .4 percent:

“I am cautiously encouraged that the national unemployment numbers dropped marginally. Unfortunately, Michigan still has double digit unemployment. There’s the specter of a potential financial crisis in the Eurozone that, as did our own in 2008, could negatively impact markets across the globe. And we cannot forget the ‘hidden unemployed,’ those who have simply stopped looking for work and don’t get counted in this report.

We must strengthen job opportunities until unemployment drops much further and faster. The House has worked all year, just passing  another set of bills that would help do just that.  Twenty-five of them are languishing in the Senate, where it is far past time they get to work passing them, so we can get all Americans back to work, too.”

The nation’s unemployment has been above 8 percent for 34 consecutive months; Michigan’s above 10 percent for 35 months.
