Huizenga Statement on President's Veto Threat of House Republican Plan to Address Spending and Debt Ceiling

After the President threatened to veto the House Republicans’ plan to cut spending and address the debt ceiling debate, the “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan, without proposing an alternative, U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02, an original co-sponsor of the bill, released the following statement:

“Mr. President, if you say we don’t need a constitutional amendment to ‘do our jobs,’ then you admit our job is balancing the budget and spending American taxpayers’ dollars wisely. Yet this administration has racked up the same amount of debt in two and half years that it previously took the U.S. from 1776-1992 to spend. This overspending is EXACTLY why the House Republicans' ‘Cut, Cap and Balance’ plan must be passed Mr. President, not vetoed as you threatened – without proposing any alternatives.

This freshman class was sent here by the American people who want to change the trajectory of spending in Washington, and this Congress must continue to stand firm and vote for policies like the ‘Cut, Cap and Balance Act’ that will help put us on a path toward fiscal sanity without hurting seniors’ or veterans’ benefits, and without raising taxes and continuing to rack up debt which will hurt the economy and kill jobs.”
