Huizenga Votes to Protect American Data Privacy From the Chinese Communist Party

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga released the following statement after voting in support of legislation to prevent foreign adversaries from owning social media companies in the United States. This bipartisan legislation passed the House by a vote of 352 to 65.

“The evidence is clear that in its current form, ByteDance, the Communist Chinese Party-controlled parent company of TikTok, is a national security threat,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “This is not an immediate ban on TikTok; it simply requires the Chinese Communist Party-controlled company to divest from TikTok. This legislation is a responsible and targeted effort to protect the data privacy of Americans and our children from foreign adversaries such as the Chinese Communist Party, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

“Frankly, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, more commonly known as CFIUS, should have addressed this specific issue years ago but has been dragging its feet in making a determination. Given CFIUS’s failure to act, Congress did their job for them.”
